Atmospheric Characterization of Rocky Exoplanets

One surprising outcome of exoplanet population surveys is the apparent ubiquity of terrestrial planets within the Milky Way. Despite the hundreds of rocky planets detected thus far, the nature of atmospheres on such worlds remains largely unconstrained. My research aims to probe the formation, retainability, and diversity of terrestrial atmospheres through both observational data and theoretical frameworks.

Emission Photometry and Spectroscopy

Instruments like Spitzer and the James Webb Space Telescope have enabled us to estimate the dayside surface flux from a planet’s surface during a secondary eclipse eclipse. This flux encodes the dayside temperature and various spectral features corresponding to the planet’s atmospheric composition.
